The East Africa Art Biennale - EASTAFAB 2007 is the biggest art exhibition in Central and Eastern Africa; it will showcase the works of 105 visual artists from Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, together with the works of artists from Belgium, Burkina Faso, Congo (Brazza), Congo (DRC), Cuba, Denmark, France, Ghana, Italy, Mauritius, Nigeria, Norway, Spain, UK USA. Each artist was allowed to submit to the Organising Committee a minimum of two artworks and a maximum of five. Read more

The 3rd East African Biennale

The 3rd East African BiennaleThe 3rd edition of the East Africa Art Biennale will take place from November 2-22, 2007, in Dar-es-Salam; a total of more than 100 visual artists will participate, with all media of expression (photography, painting, collage, prints, wood and metal sculpture, textile art, installation,...), from East Africa, other countries of Africa, Europe, USA, Cuba. Rafiki International workshop 2007 was organised by the Rafiki Trust, an art organization based in Dar es Salaam central Business District. The workshop which took place from the 8th to 22nd June brought together artist from Tanzania, Fred Halla, Haji Chilonga, Robino Ntila, Lutengano Mwakisopile, Phidelice Gervacy, Omari Kanyaki, Kenyan artist Beatrice Njoroge and Dr. Philip Kwesiga from Uganda. Visits for artistic creation in Mexico

The Embassy of Mexico is calling for people in East Africa who are wishing to create an artistic work in Mexico under the guidance of an expert in the field. The duration of the scholarship will be six months, during which the selected artists will be able to enrich their work through constant exchanges with Mexican artists.The successful candidate is to undergo a Spanish course prior to her or his departure.  Read more…

Hemed Mohammed “Medi” Zanzibar Artist

Bao playersHemed Mohammed Adam "Medi" is an artist from Zanzibar Stone Town who uses watercolors and oil on canvas to paint different subjects like street, people and dhows (traditional boat). Medi's draws his inspiration from Raza (also an Artist in Zanzibar) and Pablo Picasso. Galleries in Africa are teeming with impressive Van Goghs, Rembrandts and Picassos. However, all these 19th Century European-look-alike masterpieces are created by contemporary Africans. Yusuf BayuuYussuf Bayuu is an experienced artist from Zanzibar island. His paintings have been awarded & he is well known on the island. His paintings reflect the beauty of the Zanzibar historical Stone Town & the indian Ocean. He was born in Zanzibar in 1973. After he finished his secondary school education in 1992, and took to painting, printing & art lessons at the Art and Craft Factory in Zanzibar.

Sile Salimini: Inspired by life

Sile - MaasaiSile Salimini, is Arusha based Tanzanian artist. His artistic talent was noted & activated by his primary school teacher responsible for art & crafts. He learnt some basic skills on how to draw & paint with acrylics, water & oil colours. Sile has never attended a formal art school to date. Much of his artwork is inspired by typical African life. Gonçalo Armando Mabunda, sculptor of the Nucleo de Arte will present the exhibition himself, in collaboration with two young French artists Frédéric Miclet (musician) and Sylvain Moignoux (video director), who will display a sound track and movies for the opening of the exhibition.
